The mission of the Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission is to promote unity, understanding, and equal opportunity among all people of Louisville Metro and to eliminate all forms of bigotry, bias, and hatred from the community.
Performance Improvement Summary
The Human Relations Commission (HRC) is one of Metro’s newest departments to be included in LouieStat, having their first forum in April 2015. HRC is consistently achieving enterprise goals for overtime, hours not worked, work related illness and injury, and employee sick leave consumption. As their main concern is eliminating bigotry, bias, and hatred from the community, the department focuses on successful and efficient case management of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) claims by using national benchmarking to stay on target for completion.
The HRC also pre-qualifies and certifies businesses who wish to do business with Metro Government in an effort to extend opportunities to all vendors in the community. The agency determines if businesses are making good faith efforts to reach Metro’s goals for minority, women and handicapped owned businesses. The Commission also houses the Citizen’s Advocate who assists anyone who believes he or she has been mistreated by a Metro police officer and files a complaint with the Professional Standards Unit of the Police. The Citizen’s Advocate also provides support and assistance with the appeals process.
