Louisville Metro Department of Animal Services has a fundamental mission to protect public health and safety, ensure the humane treatment of animals and to provide quality, professional service to the public.

Performance Improvement Summary

Metro Animals Services’ (MAS) mission is to protect public health and safety, ensure the humane treatment of animals and provide quality, professional service to the public. LMAS will serve as an authority in animal welfare by creating and preserving a safe and humane community for both people and animals.

MAS has worked hard to improve their Live Release Rate. In 2013, the average Live Release Rate was 68%. Today, MAS is consistently reaching over 80% by reducing intake by educating and offering assistance to pet owners and by focusing on positive outcomes for animals such as adoption. The number of animals MAS adopts out has been increasing each year for the past 3 years and is on pace to continue this trend.
