It is the mission of the Louisville Metro Police Department to deliver professional, effective services, fairly and ethically, at all times, to all people, in order to prevent crime, control crime and enhance the overall quality of life for citizens and visitors. We will encourage and promote community involvement on all levels to achieve these ends.
Performance Improvement Summary
As one of 21 leading jurisdictions across the country to participate in the White House’s Police Data Initiative, which encourages departments to better use data and technology to build community trust, LMPD has greatly expanded its KPI reporting and open data sets over the last 12 months, including KPIs and data sets on officer involved shootings, assaults against officers, citations, vehicle stops, etc. LMPD has shown improvements in complaints against officers, hours lost, overtime usage and sick leave consumption.
While they have participated in several internal improvement projects over the last several years, LMPD is now focusing on overall project management improvement and capability building. With employees going through Lean, Six Sigma and Project Management training, they are working to expand their performance improvement projects over the course of the next year.
Recently recognized by the White House for their work to implement 21st Century Policing, Louisville's police force is among a select few chosen to serve as a national model for other police departments.
