The Louisville Free Public Library's mission is to provide the people of Louisville Metro with the broadest possible access to knowledge, ideas and information, and to support them in their pursuit of learning.
Performance Improvement Summary
Through continuous improvement efforts, the Library has reduced its hours lost due to work related injury or illness substantially; with a goal of 4,937 hours, the Library is only totaling 824 hours for the past year. The Library has also made progress toward reducing overtime; the goal for the past year was $38,896, however, actual overtime expenditures were only $5,453. While the number of certificates earned through Lynda.com over the past year is a little below the goal, the Library has seen the number go up to 97 certificates in December of 2015, surpassing the monthly goal of 90 certificates.
The Library continues its performance improvement initiatives and is currently using the Six Sigma methodology to better its “holds” process. Through this Six Sigma project, the Library hopes to make the process for reserving items more streamlined and efficient, with faster item delivery times between branches. This will ultimately result in increased citizen satisfaction. The Library is also focused on initiatives to increase the total number of library card holders.
